Re: Marias Animal Shelter September 21 update
What a rollercoaster month we had. From the middle of the month the phone was always ringing and we started to get an overwhelming amount of people wanting to give up their animals. Most came in ill. We have been short of volunteers helping us. It put a lot of pressure on us to keep things rolling smoothly. Unfortunately we currently do not have an admin person, so cannot tell you how many animals we had in this month.

We had to halt any rabbit activity this month due to a suspected outbreak of VHD. There was a group of 7 babies that entered the shelter. One died 2 days after arriving then another one. A third went into the vet because he had become very quiet. The vet advised to have him put to sleep and to send him off for post mortem. A negative result came back last week and so we are getting back to normal activities.

Busy, busy. When will it end. We seem to be fighting a constant endless battle to help animals, which gets overwhelming sometimes. Thank goodness I have an amazing team at the shelter now because I would not now be able to cope without them and the volunteers we have. Admin is not up to date at the moment but we saw an intake of around 25 but only 15 going out. Last weekend we were the last chance for one rabbit called Daisy. The family were getting evicted and could not find anywhere to take their rabbit. They were currently living in London and it took them 5 hours to reach us. Luckily it was a good ending for Daisy.
