Zithromax

Post by Foofy »

Anyone had Zithromax prescribed by vet for rabbits before? Buttons has just been changed onto it from Baytril. Mine is a suspension and had to make it up with 9ml water he will be starting it tomorrow for his respiratory infection as Baytril not working. Never used this ab before hopefully it tastes better than the Baytril! Assume it will as it appears to be for children

Both Dodger and Max had it when they had headtilt, both had good results, Dodger used to love the taste :)

I hope it works well for Buttons :)

Thanks Sue Buttons doesn't mind it as much as the Baytril he was on he absolutely hated that so much that I had to mix it with pineapple juice to get him to take it at all! it's a relief I don't have to mix it any more :) he's only been on it a couple days so a bit early to tell if it's working yet.

I'll keep you posted with the results

Buttons has now been on the Zithromax for 2 weeks and I think its working :) :) his breathing seems to be a bit better now and his nostrils don't seem to be so flared :D :D

He's back at the vets tonight for a check up and another couple of weeks supply of the Zithromax.

It did seem to affect him for the first couple of days in a negative way as he went off his SS pellets for about 2 days although he was eating his greens and hay this is very, very unlike Buttons so I'm sure the ab's were making him feel funny :( after 2-3 days he was back to his normal self thank goodness just as I was starting to think he may have to come off of it he started eating normally again :) :)

Unfortunately Buttons breathing has worsened a bit :-( it did improve a great deal to start off with on the Zithromax and I don't know why it's worsened again :-( he was back at the vets on Wednesday and the vet agreed with me he has deteriorated so he has been put back on Metacam and carry on with the Zithromax twice a day till next week. If we can't get him to improve again the vet wants me to try him on an inhaler in a few weeks time :-(
I'll let you know how he gets on next week I'm hoping his breathing will improve slightly with the Metacam.
