Camp Nibble - News and updates

Post by Camp Nibble »

Thank you so much for the continued support, we are very grateful to have been a part of Pledge a Pound since it began :)

We continue to rescue/re-home on a smaller scale than we have done over the past decade, now specialising in providing longer term care to very hard to re-home rabbits in rescue, often with complex health issues.

So far this January we have been able to welcome in 5 new rabbits and 3 new guinea pigs (very sadly so far needing to turn away 24 rabbits).
Most of these new rescue animals are old or unwell with additional care needs. Amongst the issues our newest arrivals have are snuffles, bladder sludge, mobility issues and dental disease. Due to this they need careful monitoring and, in some cases, daily medications and lots of help with keeping clean and hygienic. We luckily have excellent vet support!

It was lovely after a trip to see our vet yesterday with 7 unwell rabbits/piggies to be told that we didn’t owe anything due to a Pledge a Pound donation having been credited to our account from the Christmas fundraiser THANK YOU!

Thank you for the update, it's so sad to hear that you've had to turn 24 rabbits away, people have no idea what they are taking on when they have a rabbit and once they realise they want to get the rabbit rehomed or into a rescue :(

I'm so glad we were able to help cover your first vet bill of the year :)

Camp NIbble will be in Januarys draw - good luck :)

We've had quite a worrying and sad February here so far.

We've said goodbye to two of our very much loved long term residents. Clive Gibbons very sadly passed away at our vets following what we thought would be a straightforwards dental operation. He had been needing a dental every six weeks bless him but had been staying really well inbetween and bouncing back great each time. It really was a huge shock to be told he'd gone suddenly as we had other bunnies staying at the vets the same night who were much more poorly who we'd been using up our energy on to worry about.

Not long after our little Black Widow needed to be put to sleep a week after developing a worrying head tilt. We have/have had many headtilt bunnies now living with us happily who have managed really well being a bit wonky. Therefore, we all had fingers and toes crossed that she would stabilize. However, she became very, very unwell and euthanasia was the only fair choice for her.

A lot of energy this month has gone into nursing our current longest stay bunny handsome giant Santa and old timer Wolverine through nasty abscess surgeries, we've been so worried about the pair of them but in much better news they both seem to be coming through the other side and we are beginning to dare say that they are both well on the road to recovery :D

Our Sanctuary bunny of the month for Feb is Columbo:

Columbo is a small crossbreed born in 2015. He sadly needed to join us at around 9 months old due to his previous owner's experiencing health issues.

Columbo has a head tilt which is much more apparent some days than others, the cause of which we have not yet been able to properly determine.

He suffers with snuffles and like many bunnies bred with flat round faces has become prone to sore eyes which need regular bathing due to excess tears running down his face.

This little chap loves exploring and is full of adventure, he is closely bonded to our sanctuary giants, and has a permanent home here at Camp Nibble.

I'm so very sorry to hear of your losses :(

Columbo looks such a cutie, I have a special soft spot for head tilt bunnies, due to my beautiful Dodger, they are so amazing the way they adapt to seeing life on the tilt :)

I hope that Santa and Wolverine continue to improve, Abscesses are so awful to deal with in rabbits and so hard to keep under control :(

Camp Nibble will be in included our February draw - good luck :)

So far this month we've had some lovely new arrivals with a variety of interesting health concerns join us.

Head tilt bunny Clark Kent, and dental bunny (with a one-sided facial paralysis) Mr Bean, both adorable senior bunnies in need of rescue support. Also tiny bunny Antman who was rescued from severe neglect in need of treatment for a very disfiguring syphilis infection. All settling in really well and receiving all of the vet care they need.

We sadly have several special needs cases waiting to join us that we just don't have available space for here at the moment. In better news though handsome healthy bunny James looks to have found the wife of his dreams in beautiful Pickle. Pickle has been staying here with us on her 'bunnymoon' for the week. We are excited to send her back to her wonderful home with James in toe tomorrow. Please wish him the very best of luck in his new home :D

Our sanctuary bunny of the month for March is Owen:

Owen is an extremely sweet older bunny born in 2010

In the short time he has been with us it has been wonderful to see this unsure old chap start to come out of his shell and begin to enjoy playing with his toys, and get used to having space to play.

Having managed to get him safely through neutering it has been an absolute joy to have successfully bonded Owen with a gentle group of our older special needs bunnies. He's visably delighted to have such lovely friends to enjoy his retirement with. Owen unfortunately has dental issues and will retire here with us as one of our sanctuary bunnies receiving all the love and care he needs.
